FTC outreach

GENIUS has had more than 17,500 views on our YouTube videos in over 90 countries, many guestbook entries on our website, and over 420 likes on our facebook page. We also tweet and correspond with other teams on the web.

This season, we've been active spreading the word about FIRST, robotics opportunities in Girl Scouts, and the Core Values through many ways. Here are some of them.

Food Factor Outreach

  • November 6th Amanda, Sarah, and Aidan spent the morning going behind the scenes at McKesson. The received a tour of the facility (which included seeing the data bank and robots used to decrease the risk of doctors mixing up medications) and asking some of McKesson's women in technology about their careers.
  • On October 28th a few of our members had a great time helping at the FLL Pace Academy scrimmage.
  • The whole team volunteered to teach other Girl Scout teams at the Girl Scout Robotics Getaway on September 16th. We taught girls what to expect during judging and basic robot building.
  • On August 18th, we mentored the coaches (and kids) of seven Girl Scout FLL teams. We went over the basics of LEGO robotics and competitions, taught some basic programming, and let the girls work together to program a robot. Along with answering questions from kids and coaches.
  • We entered the "Wouldn't it be cool if..." Contest presented by will.i.am on March 9th. This is the website; http://www.wouldntitbecoolif.com/ideas/813 (voting is now over :-))
  • We volunteered at the state FTC tournament as well as several other FTC and FLL tournaments throughout the season.
  • February 11th we volunteered at a FTC qualifier to learn more about how FTC works and what to expect ourselves.
  • We shared our project, robot, and the FLL Core Values with over 1300 people at the Girl Scout STEM Expo.
